MATTHEW LING PHOTOGRAPHY
Construction
Construction photography for the Midlands and throughout the UK
As Matthew Ling photography I have been providing high-quality images of the built environment for over 15 years. In that time I have worked with businesses ranging from globally recognised brands showcasing their multi-million pound constructions all the way to individuals trying to sell their homes and everything in between.
I approach every commission in the same way and use my passion for the built environment, coupled with the skills I have honed exclusively in this field and the high quality equipment I deploy, to create unique visual stories of the projects I cover.
A unique selling point of mine is that I offer unlimited licensing for all the images I produce. For one quoted price you get the shoot, all retouching and processing and the right to use the images in perpetuity for your web, print and social media needs.
I work throughout the UK from my base in the Midlands and would love to get involved if you have a design or build, either finished or mid-construction, that you want to show in its best light. Please browse my extensive portfolio to get an idea of what I can accomplish with your design as my guide.

The need for high quality construction photography
Documentation:
Construction photography is used to document the various stages of a construction project. It captures the progress from start to finish, providing a visual record of key milestones, phases of work, and changes over time. This documentation is valuable for project management, record-keeping, and compliance purposes. It can also provide a great portfolio for potential investors and clients, showing invaluable detail of the project from the initial ground-breaking through to the opening. For specific moments during a build such as crane-lifts for example I can also produce kinetic time-lapse photography which my clients always value. To do this I work quickly, even changing lenses on the fly in order to get a brief but visually impactful animation which is prefect for social media or website use.
Communication and Reporting:
Construction photography helps in communicating project status to stakeholders such as clients, investors, and regulatory authorities. Photos can convey complex information more effectively than written reports, allowing stakeholders to visualize the actual state of the project.
Quality Control and Inspections:
Photographs can be used to inspect and assess the quality of workmanship, materials, and adherence to design specifications. They serve as a reference for quality control checks and can help identify deficiencies that need to be addressed.
Marketing and Promotion:
High-quality construction photos are often used for marketing and promotional purposes by construction companies, architects, and developers. These photos showcase completed projects or highlight unique design features to attract potential clients and investors. Most if not all Constructors use images on social media to help connect with potential investors as well as to communicate with all of the multitude of suppliers who come together to create an entire building.
Safety and Training:
Photographs can also play a role in safety training and awareness. They can document safety practices, identify hazards, and serve as examples for training materials to improve safety on construction sites.
Overall, construction photography plays a multifaceted role in the construction industry, offering visual documentation, progress monitoring, communication, quality control, legal support, marketing, and safety benefits throughout the lifecycle of a construction project. Wether the build is a domestic conservatory or an entirely new hospital, high quality construction photography plays an incredibly important role in raising brand awareness and collating consumer interest.
Why choose Matthew Ling photography for your UK Construction photography needs?
I have been working as a photographer in the construction industry for 15 years. In fact, all of my professional photography commissions are within the built environment. This makes me acutely aware of my responsibility in this field and the many issues that can be faced.
All of my equipment is specifically for use in this field, from high quality mirrorless camera systems to heavy duty tripods and powerful lighting and modifiers for even the darkest spaces. I use lenses from the very wide to capture whole buildings to super-telephoto lenses for intriguing details, often to showcase the intricacy of the many manufacturers who contribute to a build.
I understand the safety issues on a working site and have extensive experience of being on them, often at quite important moments. This experience makes me a calm figure on a site where perhaps the environment is anything but.
I am extremely professional when on site and also an amenable, personable person. I take instruction well and am also able to work unsupervised or as part of a team. I find collaboration very edifying and always use my intuition and skill to garner a stunning portfolio of images for each project I cover, whether working with a marketing manager or a site manager and the different approaches required in each situation.
I have worked with many large constructors such as Tilbury Douglas, Kier, BASE and SDC as well as W.P. Carey, one of the largest global landlords. I have also worked with small companies who rely on a series of great images in order to showcase their business to gather further clients and larger commissions. I take each commission very seriously and hold myself to the highest standard, fully aware that my photography is the way in which my clients reach out to the digital world and their existing and potential clientele.
Construction photography is a great passion of mine. I never fail to be inspired my the myriad ways in which constructers and suppliers work in harmony to create the built environment that many take for granted. I see it as a privilege to visit these spaces and document them and am always excited to show clients my results.
If you need a dedicated and experienced construction photographer for any project, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
